Künzelsau , 17 February 2025 - The rows of chairs were filled to the last seat at the latest charity concert organised by the Albert Berner Foundation, the Rotary Club Künzelsau-Öhringen and Sparkasse Hohenlohekreis. "That gives me hope that we might even be able to top last year's result," said Werner Gassert in his welcoming speech. The Chairman of the Albert Berner Foundation was proved right: With record proceeds of exactly 14,034 euros, the music event raised more money than ever before. For the third time, the full amount will be donated to the Hospice St Elisabeth Hohenlohe. The Albert Berner Foundation "rounded up" the donation sum to 15,000 euros.

Hospice St. Elisabeth Hohenlohe shortly before opening: therapy and care facility receives record proceeds from benefit concert Berner Group

"From our own, sometimes painful experience, many of us know how important it is to offer seriously ill people and their relatives a place where they can receive professional support in the last phase of their lives; where people can be there for each other to talk, listen and say goodbye with dignity. This idea is being realized with the establishment of the inpatient hospice," emphasized Ursula Berner, Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the Albert Berner Foundation, at the symbolic handover of the cheque to the BBT Group (Barmherzige Brüder Trier), the majority shareholder of Hohenloher Krankenhaus gGmbH, which is responsible for the planning and operation of the facility.

For those responsible at the Albert Berner Foundation, the hospice centre is a matter close to their hearts. "Our wish is to create a space in our home town where we can give more life to the last days. A place of smiles, not just suffering," explains Werner Gassert. "That's why we have been supporting this flagship project for a long time and have now provided a total of almost 150,000 euros with the new donation. Our commitment and the efforts of many other supporters have made it possible for the Hospice St Elisabeth to take in its first residents next month."

Open day 15 March

The Managing Director of the Hospice, Thomas Wigant, thanked everyone involved: "Once again, we are delighted to receive the donation as proceeds from this wonderful charity concert for our Hospice St. Elisabeth. We would like to thank the Albert Berner Foundation, Sparkasse Hohenlohekreis and the Künzelsau-Öhringen Rotary Club in particular for their strong commitment and generous donation in favour of the hospice. In a few weeks, we will be able to welcome the first guests to our hospice. This is only possible thanks to the broad support of many citizens who are supporting our project with great personal commitment. Many thanks to all our supporters. My special thanks go to the initiator, Mrs Ursula Berner, for whom the hospice in Künzelsau is a matter close to her heart, and to Mrs Christiane Sigloch, who is actively involved as chairwoman of the support association. We are delighted that the hospice has already found a home and strong support in the town of Künzelsau and the Hohenlohe district." Silke Feinauer, future nursing director, presented the project on the evening of the concert. She added: "I am overwhelmed by the great willingness of people to support our hospice and to make it possible for people to die with dignity and professional care. Many thanks to all donors, and especially to Mrs Berner for her initiative and personal commitment. The entire hospice team is already looking forward to starting work soon."

The conversion of the building at Rösleinsberg 29 in Künzelsau began in mid October 2023 with a symbolic "hammer blow". Now the new Hospice St. Elisabeth Hohenlohe is nearing completion. At an open day on Saturday, 15 March 2025, all interested parties are cordially invited to take a look at the premises and find out more about the therapy and care concept. The building will be open to visitors from 1 pm to 4 pm. The first guests are expected to arrive the following week.

Popular series of events

The Albert Berner Foundation, Sparkasse Hohenlohekreis and the Rotary Club Künzelsau-Öhringen have been organising their joint charity concert for more than two decades. Each time, the proceeds go in full to projects, institutions, clubs or associations in the region that are worthy of support. Different artists are used. With 200 visitors, the latest edition of the charity event was once again a great success. Under the motto "Iron Maiden in love with Vivaldi", the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra (conducted by Susanne von Gutzeit) thrilled the audience in the packed customer hall of Sparkasse Hohenlohekreis.
