Two social projects in one week:

BERNER Group packs gift bags for children in Cologne and builds wooden benches in the ‘Flügelnuss’ kindergarten.

With two social projects within a few days, the BERNER Group has once again demonstrated the importance it attaches to social commitment. Executives of the family-owned company from across Europe packed 250 gift bags for children, which were handed over to the Cologne-based association ‘Helfen durch Geben - der Sack e.V.’. In addition, the ‘Flügelnuss’ kindergarten in Bonn is pleased to receive two mobile wooden workbenches.

For the BERNER Group's executives, it was a special kind of work assignment: During an international management conference in Cologne, they packed 250 bags for children. Filled with toys, crayons, books, painting utensils, sweets and nuts, they were then handed over to the association ‘Helfen durch Geben - der Sack e.V.’ and will now be distributed to local kindergartens to bring joy to boys and girls from socially disadvantaged neighborhoods. ‘We have already implemented many activities with the BERNER Group in the past. Therefore, we are all the more pleased that we have once again set up such a great project. The children are guaranteed to be delighted,’ says Lutz Nietgen, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Helfen durch Geben - der Sack e.V..

In line with the company value ‘be responsible’, more than 50 of the B2B distributor's managers took part in the project. ‘Between presentations, talks and workshops, this was a highlight for everyone. It's great that we can put a smile on the faces of many children in Cologne with these bags – especially with Easter just around the corner,’ says Maike Walter, Corporate Communications Manager, who is responsible for coordinating the projects.

Wooden workbenches for children promote craft skills

In addition to the packing activity, the family-owned company implemented another social project a few days later: the children of the Fröbel kindergarten ‘Flügelnuss’ in Bonn Bad-Godesberg now have the opportunity to test their manual skills at two mobile workbenches. The BERNER Group not only donated the material and the tools, but also took care of the installation. Four employees lent a hand with the construction. ‘We are happy about the support of the BERNER Group. The workbenches offer the children the opportunity to be creative and to implement their own ideas,’ says Jana Lantzerath from the Fröbel kindergarten. ’On behalf of the children, I would like to express my sincere thanks, especially to the dedicated helpers who took a day out of their time for the project.’

Social commitment is in the DNA of the company

Since 2017, the BERNER Group has regularly supported social projects in and around Cologne, as well as at all other company locations throughout Europe. What makes the family-owned company special is that it not only helps with monetary or product donations, but also grants its employees up to two days of paid special leave a year to get personally involved in good causes. Whether it's kindergartens, schools or non-profit organizations, the BERNER Group's local teams get involved wherever they are needed. The B2B distributor has already been awarded the ‘KölnEngagiert’ (Cologne Engaged) prize by the city of Cologne for its commitment.
