With two social projects within a few days, the BERNER Group has once again demonstrated the importance it attaches to social commitment.
PraeMedicum: Berner Group donates portable heart-lung machine
The PraeMedicum medical centre is expanding its range of emergency care services. With immediate effect, a heart-lung machine of the "Cardio-Help-System" series is available there. The device enables the doctors to bridge emergency situations of patients with cardiopulmonary arrest for up to 30 days. The purchase was made possible by a generous donation from the Berner Group.
"The closure of the hospital has unfortunately worsened the situation of emergency patients in Künzelsau. We want to improve this situation with our place-based donation to PraeMedicum. As part of the community, it is natural for us as Berner Group to take responsibility," said BERNER CEO Christian Berner.
The device, which costs around 155,000 euros, is one of the smallest, but at the same time fully functional heart-lung machines in the world, which is used to bridge an emergency situation with cardiopulmonary arrest. This bridging can last from a few hours up to 30 days. Due to the small transport size of this so-called "cardio-help system", it is possible to transport or fly out affected patients in severe cardiovascular or pulmonary emergencies to a centre; typically a university hospital.
"We are very happy about this donation from the BERNER Group, because the device is particularly well suited for rural areas. In many cases, unfortunately, any help comes too late because the nearest centre is too far away to provide competent high-end help. With the Cardio-Help, we can close this gap in emergency care," says Prof. Dr. Christoph Karle from PraeMedicum in Künzelsau.
There, a number of cardiologists as well as the senior emergency physician and former head physician of anaesthesia and emergency medicine at the Hohenlohe hospital, Dr Andreas Kühn, are very familiar with the operation of the machine. "Our PraeMedicum is to become a small and fine outpatient centre or clinic that helps patients in our area with targeted high-tech," Prof. Karle continues.

The BERNER Group is kicking off the second half of the financial year with one of the biggest international brand campaigns in the company's history.
Despite the generally challenging situation on the apprenticeship market, the BERNER Group was once again able to fil all places at its locations in the Hohenlohe region at the start of the 2024/2025 training year.
