Donation helps set up a new family home

Künzelsau, February 07, 2018 – The Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village Association in Waldenburg is delighted to announce that the charitable institution has received a donation totaling 38,000 euros. Just under 7,500 euros come from the proceeds of the latest benefit concert jointly organized by the Albert Berner Foundation, Sparkasse Hohenlohekreis and Rotary Club Künzelsau-Öhringen. The Albert Berner Foundation rounded this amount up to 8,000 euros and donated a further 30,000 euros to the association.

All the funds will be used to furnish a new family home in the Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village. The three-story building has around 340 square meters of living space and was used until six months ago to accommodate young people. After extensive remodeling and renovation measures, twelve people and a dog will soon move in.

“The furnishings, in particular, were a major financial challenge for us,” says Wolfgang Bartole, member of the Executive Board of the Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village Association. “The Albert Berner Foundation’s outstanding social commitment is well-known in the region, so we asked for support to purchase furnishings. We were delighted when the application was approved and we were promised generous support for the furniture. It was only thanks to the Albert Berner Foundation’s assistance that we were able to quickly set up the family home and prepare it for its new occupants.”

The youngsters admitted to the children’s village are often from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and will now find children’s rooms in which they feel comfortable. The functional kitchen with dining area and adjoining living room have also been newly furnished. The family will be able to use the garden furniture and outdoor toys purchased with the help of the donation by this spring at the latest.

“It is a matter close to my heart to be able to help boys and girls and give them a beautiful home with ideal conditions so that they can look back on a happy childhood many years later as adults,” emphasizes Ursula Berner, Chairperson of the Foundation Council of the Albert Berner Foundation, who together with the Deputy Chairman of the Foundation Council, Werner Gassert, also Treasurer of the Rotary Club Künzelsau-Öhringen, and Werner Siller, Member of the Board of Sparkasse Hohenlohekreis, presented the symbolic donation check from the benefit concert to Wolfgang Bartole.

Popular event series

The benefit concert is organized annually by the Albert Berner Foundation, Sparkasse Hohenlohekreis and Rotary Club Künzelsau-Öhringen. Last November, the 17th edition of the popular event series was held – and as always, it was a great success! 250 visitors filled the bank lobby in Künzelsau to the very last seat. And this was no wonder, as the three organizers once again provided a musical highlight with the acclaimed ensemble GERMAN BRASS. The proceeds from the charity concerts are always donated in full to projects, institutions, clubs or associations in the region that are worthy of support.
